Those are probably the grass carp, and I believe they are supposed to be left alone. And fortunately I don't believe they usually bite 'normal' carp bait.

I belive you are correct. Awhile back I went to Devils Lake and there is a boat rental shop I stoped off at to get some worms and there was huge carp near the dock and he told me if you hook one you need to let them go... also told me they throw in a few pounds of dried corn to help feed them.

I think there is a big difference from the way carp tastes coming from the willie and columbia.

I dunno if it's just me, but the willie is def fishier but from the columbia, it's actually tasty. Most people don't like carp cause they don't know how to clean it well(so it doesn't taste fishy), as well as cooking it the right way. But you know asians...cook with any and every kind of fish...haha. But if I cooked for you guys...you'd all think differently! You won't even know you're eating carp!

But anyhoo...I catch it strictly for my dad...cause he loves it...

Haha...carp is good for the notorious fish soup...

I used worms, I realized that the carp from the gilbert eat corn (and my secret bait). But I caught these off the columbia, so I think they'll eat anything. Untill I can't catch them at a certain time, I'll switch baits.

But 3ft...will surely give you a fight! I had to switch rods before I ended up killing my crank like I did with my last fishing pole...haha...

I have been waiting patiently for the day when I will hook another carp, this time to keep for my smoker . I have only landed one carp and that was by accident on a 5 weight fly rod and WHEW was that a blast.... Fought for so long and so hard I had no choice but to let it go... my rod holding arm started cramping about 10 mins into it... but if I can get one more, this time I want to take it home. I hate killing fish as I am usually 100% catch and release.
I may take fish in the bay, sometimes in fresh water, but 99% of the time I let them go unless I want to see what they taste like and what it is like to take one home.
