ANYONE HAVE ANY SECRETS THAT THEY ARE WILLING TO SHARE ON FISHING BARVIEW JETTY OR SURF ON THE BEACH? TAKING FAMILY THERE FOR MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND AND KNOW THE CRABBING ISNT THE BEST THIS YEAR SO LOOKING FOR SOMETHING ELSE TO FISH THERE. I USALLY ONLY GO THERE FOR THE CRAB BUT THIS TRIP MAY NEED A BACK UP PLAN ALSO... IF ANYONE ELSE IS DOWN THERE FOR THE HOLIDAY LET ME KNOW IF YOU NEED SOMEBODY TO FISH/DRINK BEER WITH

So far the only saltwater fishing I've managed to master is catching staghorn sculpin. They're great for the kids as they're often found in protected coves and what not, and they attack absolutely relentlessly once you find them. They act almost like absolutely miniature lingcod.

They're really to small to be worth eating but if they're around I've never known them to not bite. And you can use basically any lure, but I've found that small trout/panfish jigs fished right along the bottom work well.

Oh yeah, and it's real easy to catch multiples .

I've heard that in more southern waters they're commonly used for stripers. But I can image a lingcod wouldn't turn one down if it happened to see it helplessly floundering on a hook.

I've found them in nearly every sand/mud flat in salty or even brackish water I've fished, at depths anywhere from 2 inches out to 10 feet, at which point they seem to disapear .

And while they seem to prefer sand/mud, I've caught them over pebble bottoms and weedy rocks so I guess they're probably everywhere!
