I live in Clackamas and want to take our three boys out in the boat to do some trout fishing on Saturday, but I don't know of any good lakes within a moderate driving distance. They are young so I don't want to haul them 3 hours away, just to have them want to turn around and come back. Any suggestions? Preferably, where people have been having some luck. Don't need trophy sized fish, just want to find some action for them!

Horseshoe lake in Woodland washington usually produces some fish, I haven't read a report from there but it is only about 20 miles north of portland right on I-5, you can see the lake from the freeway on the west side of the road as you approach Woodland. Good luck.

Try North Fork Res. It is a few minutes outside of Estacada. Which from Clackamas wouldn't be too long of a drive for kids to handle. Also Mt Hood Pond at the Ht Hood Community College, and Salish Pond also provide a great opprotunities for youths to fish. Hope that helps.
