Default Eastern Oregon OFF gathering results

Well Joesnuffy and I hit the Umatilla at "Chinaman's" hole around 13:00 (we had lunch before hitting the water).

we each had fish on and I brought home two fair hooked silvers (a buck 33 inches in length and a hen 29 inches in length). Both fish were a tad dark but still bright enough and not too beat up to make good smokers.

    I will post pics later.

    Default Day one pictures

Well I cleaned the fish and put stuff away, downloaded the pictures off of my camera.... Joesnuffy has a couple pics on his camera that he will I am hoping post when he gets home.

We are meeting up at 07:00 in the little park in Umatilla Oregon if anyone else is able to join us.

One guy fishing down there was using 80 pound braid and rock dancers and caught the biggest catch... a bicycle frame loaded with tackle (thank goodness he got it off the water as it was a definate snag hazard).

    Joesnuffy with fish on

my first fair hooked fish of the day (I had foul hooked two others without even trying to set the hook).

my total fair hooked catch for the day

The buck coho measured 33 inches

the leaves on the fish are from me setting them down a couple times on the hike back to the car.

Big Grin Wish I was there!

    Dave & Joe;
Sure wish I could be there with you guys! Looks like you are having great success and the weather is co-operating. That bike looks like $100 worth of gear was left behind. I hope the kid riding it made it to shore.
You two characters have fun and catch a bunch for the rest of us.

    Default Day 2

Well we started at 07:00 on the Umatilla just south of the Umatilla bridge at a boat ramp and fished there for a couple hours with no bites, but we saw a lot of fishing there.

So we moved on to the Irrigon hatchery to fish (on the Columbia River) as we didn't want to go back to "Chinaman's Hole" as it was already getting people fishing there when Joesnuffy drove by and we knew it would be packed (combat fishing) today.

The Navy decided to join us for a few minutes

I didn't get anything to the bank, but did get some good bites and crackered off two fish, but Joesnuffy landed two fair hooked coho (I was the net man today and he was the net man yesterday). The first fish landed was too beat up to keep, and he tagged the second one... both caught on bobber and jig. The one he tagged is a 32 inch buck silver (both Chinook and Silvers can be kept on this stretch of the Columbia River

    Joesnuffy with his fish

At about 14:00 we got blown out of our hole by the wind which was causing one to two foot swells.

I am sure he will post pics when he gets back home (some of me being a cheepskate wading out chest deep to get unstuck from the bottom).

Both of us had a great time and I would go fishing with Joesnuffy anytime.

    Osmosis,
Sure would have loved to have had you here. Yes I know it is a long drive (three hours east of Portland), but I can guarantee you would have hooked a fish.... I can't guarantee it wouldn't have been foul hooked as the fish were so thick they would run into your line and start spooling you. Withing the first five minutes of fishing I had one on that had hooked itself in a fin, but it was still fun playing it in and releasing it. Friday Joesnuffy was "Netboy" and I must admit I was impressed with his netting skills and Saturday I was "Netboy" and I didn't cracker off any of Joesnuffy's fish either.

Well I'm back to work this morning. Here's a few photos from the weekend.

When the Hatchery is closed, the fish still try to return.

I love the way the top corky blured on this. It makes it look like he was caught with a little bit of fire. How did you do that Dave?
