Default Safe return !!!

We made it back yesterday and was I ready for some Willamette Valley weather, that place can be brutal..the week was packed full of fishing and friendships. All ways nice to spend time with my son camping and fishing. We started off fishing Crane and I must admit the lake has really taken a turn for the worse as far as water quality goes, the fishing was tough for Bass and Trout. We made our home lake camp at Crane and fished Wickiup, Crane and Lava.... By far the most productive lake was Wickiup, four species of fish caught there (Rainbow Trout,German Brown Trout,Brooktrout and Koke's) big water lake and windy, man was it windy. The weather never did cooperate with us until the last day of fishing and we nailed them. Lava lake was the most productive lake in the region for this angler, tried to fish it on Weds. but the lake was just to windy and the snow was blowing to hard to launch. We went back on Friday and man the place just laid down and produced some of its beauties...Rainbows and Brookies oh my..
We caught fish Trolling spoons, on the bottom with powerbait and worms and my favorite method bobber and worm. Mokai holds the record for most species (Bass,Rainbow,Browns & Kokes) I got the honor of the largest fish, 20.5 Rainbow Trout out of Lava Lake. All and all a great trip and some great memories, here are some of my pictures. If your thinking of going to Central Oregon for some fishing let me know and I can hook you up on where and how we caught ours. Tight lines.

Chuck

Default Congrats...Troutski and Mokai

I'd love to make it back over there sometime soon. I haven't fished those lakes for several years. Nice Brookie...they're my favorite trout. I'd like to also try East and Paulina lakes, I've never fished either.

No brown bagger, but a fun fight and a great dinner. Three of us had Brown Trout for the first time - mighty tasty, cooked on an open fire pit.

Thumbs up Big Lava Lake

I have to express to you all that if you have the oppertunity to fish Central Oregon, don't pass up Big Lava Lake. This lake is absolutely one of the crown jewels of the Cascades, fly angling, trolling, pitching lures and bait fishing. This lake has some of the most beautiful fish I have seen in a great while. We managed to catch and release two and a half species while there, Rainbow Trout and Brook Trout along with a mix breed Brook/Rainbow - what a cool looking fish. This lake isn't a huge lake and not that deep compared to the bodies of water I am used to, again if your headed to the Cascade Lakes area of Central Oregon in the next month or two please shoot me a pm and I can give you more information on the hot spots along the shore line of this jewel. If their is a bad thing to mention about this lake it would be boat trailer parking, it is one of the places that you better be there early or be prepared to walk a ways from the ramp to over flow parking area. Again though while your catching these monster fish the parking is quite inconsequential, the average fish we hooked was 14" and fatties - the largest was 20+inches. Be well and tight lines.
