Hey everybody, great forum you have here.

I'm brand new to Oregon and just started river fishing for the first time this last week. I've been told the "town run" is still going for Summer Steelhead, and have been throwing spinners around Island Park and Alton Baker East.

If anyone knows some good bank access areas please feel free to shout em out. I have waders, but beyond that, I don't have a lot of clue as to what I'm doing.

Any tips/pointers are much appreciated. I've read about fishing "tail outs" but without being a boat have not been able to view a lot of water and learn to read them. Should I only be fishing areas where you get ripples in the water? Or are some of the deeper areas worth fishing too??

THANKS all! I've been in Oregon for three weeks and everyone around here has been beyond nice. It's a great State/Community you have here.

My wife and I dropped the crab traps in the bay and trolled up-river in search of our first salmon. Changed spinners a couple times and just before Gardiner decided to try running about 10' at 1.5 mph. Instant hook-up and the battle was on. Good fight for 5 minutes or so and then took off like a freight train for the bay. WT#? Wife put the boat in gear and followed till we saw a black head pop up with my salmon clutched in it's mouth. I put as much pressure as possible on and finally broke the mainline. Needless to say we are PO'd!
No more hits for the day. Sorted through at least 60 crab for 2 limits. Still a great day on the water.
Cheers, Dan

My youngest (24) son and I took a day trip up to Olallie Lake today. I wanted to see if there was any fire damage, and get my son into some trout!

I'm happy to report there seems to be no fire damage at all around the lake. My son and I did not row down to the south end of the lake but from what we could see it appears the entire lake was untouched (see photos).

The fishing was outstanding to say the least! Calvin and I caught 56-trout (fifty six) in 5 1/2 hours of fishing. We had on doubles our first set of cast and had doubles on about 5-6 times total through out the day! The average size was only about 11" and our largest was just 13" but the fish were fat and sassy! Many of these thick and deep fish had enough muscle to bend our ultra-light rods until the cork groaned!

We anchored off the rock wall in about 25' of water and never moved the whole day as the fishing was steady, and almost too easy! Of course we released all but our limits using barbless single hooks (see photo). We only kept a full limit as I am hosting a trout dinner for 6-adults so we needed a large mess of fish!

I didn't have my thermometer along, but just from feel I can report the water temperature is very cool and very much in the comfort range of the fiesty Olallie trout!

For you flyfishers I can honestly say I did not see a single hatch or spinner fall of any kind the entire day. In fact, I did not see a fish even surface or jump the entire day. If I had been fishing my fly gear I would have been dragging a mini leech pattern deep, or fishing chironomids on a bobber rig.

Photos left to right:
1,2,3 - Olallie Lake south.
4,5 - Olalllie Lake north.
6 - We had on several doubles so these two fat little trout posed together.
7,8 - My son with the unlucky fish.
9 - Don't ask.
10 - My riggin' to easily release bait caught fish unharmed.
Just wondering if anyone has fished this stretch, are there any holes, is it worth doing? I really want to get to the molalla/pudding confluence but can't find a good way (using a row boat). I'll find out on thursday anyway, but I was hoping someone could tell me anything about that stretch. Thanks in advance.

Saw around 45 boats on the water today , we started at daylight and fished till 3pm . Only saw 6 fish landed all day ,and about the same number movin around . Thinking the next blast of rain might light it up . Talked to a few avid types and got reports of short bite turn ons last week and weekend still hearing spotty reports with a few sizeable ones. The coho numbers are down from last year so far . Hopefully things will improve in the next few weeks. Was a gorgeous day though sure beats workin!!!!

I've been real busy with the new job and haven't had much time for fishing or the forums.

But she was right, I needed to be back here, where I belong, but the problem was I didn't want to show up without fish.

So, knowing I wanted to post today, I headed out to the Sandy to get a Chinook and Steelhead so that I wouldn't come empty handed.

It was a nice day:

Biggest fish of the day was a 12 inch rainbow that put up a great fight. Saw tons of native salmon spawning. Released all my fish so some other lucky person can try to catch them.

-Premium UV Yarn (Gen 1)-

We have a small amount of our first batch available before we officially release our new UV Yarn to the market. This yarn is of the highest quality, hand dyed and enhanced with our exclusive UV process. The yarn will not bleed onto other colors and resists fading. Being that its made with natural fibers it hold scent longer and moves better in the water.

Here is one of our customers from Washington with a steelhead he landed today! He said 8 boats were fishing around them today and with the water low and clear the fishing was tough. He landed the only fish in 8 boats on our pink UV yarn.

There are nine colors available right now and only about 3-6 packages of each color. Once they are gone thats it until we release our new UV Yarn. We are selling this last batch for $1.50 per package of 6 feet. This is about 50% off our retail price!

Steelhead Stalkers UV Yarn

Our newest yarn is made with even softer fibers and will be available in about a week! Good luck out there.
