Welcome to OFF,Hooked! Glad to have you here.
Detroit has trout, landlocked chinook and kokanee from what I hear. Though the only thing I have ever caught is trout from the dam. Most people use wedding ring w/worm,ford fenders, corn soaked in tuna oil, shrimp etc. Good luck with whichever one you chose. Let us know how you do.

I've also heard there are catfish galore, specially bullheads. I've never tried for them up there, but what I've heard is that if you fish with a worm and don't do something to keep it off the bottom you're pretty much guaranteed a catfish.

Here's a helpful pdf from Luhr Jensen with more details about detroit, http://www.detroitlakeoregon.org/ima...chBulletin.pdf

The only place I hae caught those little Bullheads, was on the North end, also known as "The Flats" at night with a worm. Near the mouth of the N. Santiam river specifically. They are better suited to night fishing when it is warm, but I'm sure there are still some that are fairly active, but the Kokanee have come up to about 50 feet or so now, and should be much easier to target, with the thermocline up at a reasonable depth...

Catfish Trout combo's....I fish each winter and learned a trick from an old friend, same set up as yours but the top hook will have power bait, more often than not I catch two fish at the same time, the top fish is normally a Trout and the bottom fish is usually a Cat (Bullhead). Quite the fight, one fish going one way and the other fish in a different one. Give it a try, very fun - I just felt a grin on my face remembering it...

..................Lustrums ago using the same setup we used to catch catfish or striped bass up to 15lbs or so............on the concrete canals in calif. We were able to camp right by the delta/mendota canal..........................

the fish came into the canals from the Delta by Tracy when they were mostly small & grew.. In the San Luis res forebay a man caught a 99lb sturgeon back in 1989........................................ .........................
