Default Latest news on the Bass roundup

This is the latest news......
alright guys, its starting to come together. Here whats going to go down.

The Round Up/Bash is going to be May 19th and 20th. ODFW is going to going to tag fish may 7th through 11th. We are hoping to round up a small group of local guys to catch and mark fish on the 12th/13th also,(JiB,TBH,Gary,Mark,Patrick....). ODFW will then begin shocking and collecting fish the week of the 14th culminating with the big bash the weekend of the 19th & 20th. So basically this way we are hoping to mark more fish then last year and catch more fish then last year. The timing of this was basically based on the fishing generally being better in the spring up there and ODFW will have the use of Both electro-shock boats for those 2 weeks. We had a ton of support from everywhere and everybody last year and it really opened up ODFW's eyes to how many people really care about our fishery and the native fish, how many people were willing to walk the walk and not just talk the talk. ODFW is really excited about this and feel that with our help they can get the population study done and done well which will go along ways to helping with getting rid of the Bass in the lake. We are basically helping ODFW lay the ground work for this lake.
As I get more information I will post it.

Chuck

Hello
I am new to this site and I am getting into fly fishing, mostly warm water fish. I would love to see this lake and help if I can. I have not seen any dates, what date or dates is this to happen? Is float tubing allowed and are there tent sites.

I came across this web site after reading an article about bass at Davis lake in the Oregon fishing and hunting news magazine. It sounds like a nice place.

I live in Stayton, east of Salem and would like to find some bass and bluegill fishing spots. I go to Aumsville ponds which has large mouth bass, bluegill, and perch. It is pretty good at times and I mostly use flies.
I am also looking for a spot to take my neices and nephew to. They live In McMinville.

Thank you for any help and good fishing to all.

Oh yeah I do to practice CPR (catch, photograph, and release) that way others get the same satisfaction as I do when I catch nice fish.

Exclamation Bass Roundup

This the latest from the people organizing the Bass Round up at Davis Lake, if you have any more questions on this event please feel free to pm me. I will get back to you. The more the merrier !

Chuck

I figure that its time to bring this back up to the front of peoples minds.

Once again ODFW has called upon us fly fishermen and women to help them with a population survey and transportation of bass out of Davis lake. ODFW are going to be electro shocking and tagging fish in the lake the weeks prior to us going up. They will also be collecting the fish they tagged via electro shocking. However,...they want us to go in and collect as many fish as we can on the weekend to help collect tagged and untagged fish as part of the survey. These fish are to be taken as LIVE prisoners and ODFW is going to transport them to different ponds and lakes that are managed for warm water species.

The reason for this survey without going into a lot of detail(pm for more background info if wanted) is that ODFW needs and wants to do something about the bass population in the lake to protect the Native species in the system(red bands, whitefish, and Bulls) this stems mainly from the Bull Trout in the system. The survey is needed as information to help them come up with a plan that they can take to the commission for this. Informally options could include mandatory catch and kill of bass, rotenoning or the lake, doing nothing. This is a project that ODFW locally considers high priority. They really need and want our help.....

As far as the Event itself.....There will be live pens setup in the lake for people to put fish in. from there ODFW will transport them into there tanker truck. Last year it really helped that people with boats took time to pick up fish from people that were fishing in tubes/toons for easy transportation.
Last year we did a potluck dinner Saturday night. I think that it would be fun to do so again. So if everyone wants to bring a dish for potluck dinner sat night that would be great.

More info to come.

Scott:
Depends on how small the cooler is and how large the bass is. There are some VERY large bass in Davis. I don't know why the bass fishermen are whining about killing any bass in Davis, because if/when ODFW does retonone the lake, all the resident bass (and trout and insects) will be killed. It will take some time to rebuild the fish and insect population, but I am in support of the return of Davis Lake to a Trophy Trout flyfishery.
