I might go there in august, theres another thread that casting Kastmasters will hook the trout and steelhead in the lake. If you want some really small fish, take a net, dip a worm or powerbait off the dock, lots of small trout should swim up and circle it. Take a small net.

Theres also plenty of panfish I think near the lotuses and lily pads, they are on the far side of the lake and the lotus leaves can cut your raft and line, so be careful. In the summer, the trout jump like CRAZY!!! They are just so small though. One here, one there, but they are too small so you cant catch em. Deeper in, I think there are bass and steelhead and bigger trout. If you go, tell us what its like please, My dad loves the camping site in Fort Steven, so were like for sure to go. Good luck!

No, family came over for half of the summer, watched the olympics for the rest. We were plannin to head out for labor day or the week before, but the short summer meant real packed camp grounds. So no spots! There might be a couple over flow sites left at fort stevens, might wanna check those out. thats whats good about it, and the o.f. sites are cheaper.

Took my first trip out this way ever. Not much about the fishin and more about the sites and being a troublsome tourist. I did manage to sneak out saturday morning before breakfast to satisfy the urge. About a mile walk from where we had camped so it was not a huge priority since we walked everywhere this weekend. I was greeted by some good spinner fishing and fat fish! 3 bright red 13" rainbows. Anybody know why a trout would change colors like this? It makes you feel so good when an idea works in a place you've never been! I was so surprised that I took a pic after each fish I got . Only stayed about an hour since I had to walk back and get breakfast... but it was fun.

Thumbs up Way to go!

They say if you can catch fish in a place you've never been then you can call yourself an angler.

Great Job brother Chuck. Those are mighty beautiful trout....................................... .........................

There is a subspecies closely related to Rainbow Trout named Redband Trout. Also years ago a pond i went to on BLM land i saw where the trout would get a beautiful red stripe when they grew to about 18".
