Default Hey Anitoily or Troutski

I have been noticing a bunch of post about basic information for Oregon fishing. We should have a "sticky post" that lists educational websites for Oregon fishing i.e. ODFW, River level info, directions to local spots, tackle needs, regulation help. Our members could post sites that they think will help our new members find fish to catch. Just an idea to maybe gain some additional members and traffic. Limit the access to the thread to members only. I just think it would be cool to have an area that people who join our site can access all the info they need to get started whether new to the sport, Oregon, or new to the area. You could call the post "Getting started". Just an idea.

Default Animated knots

This would have been helpful when I was getting started...

I have that site on my Bookmarks. I love it! I sit at my comp and learn to tie the knots. Helps to pass the time between outings.

I think it's a great idea except the bold part. The goal is to draw in new members with an added value, but if they can't see the value to start with (by being limited to members) what is making them want to join? Of course the other problem is that you want new members to sign up and contribute, not just lurk and that's what limiting it to members is for. And sadly I don't have any ideas for a good way to have your cake and eat it to.

Membership is free and does not require any personal info besides an Email. I have no problem with people just visiting. The more the better. I added that not to be rude to visitors but to encourage people to join the community. I enjoy hearing of fish tales and seeing pics from around the state.

Oh I know it's free and all that, and I certainly don't see it as being rude either. It's just that when I'm browsing the web and come to a page that requires me to sign-up to see it, I usually skip over it and just keep on going. And the main reason is that if I can't be sure there is in fact some extra value in signing-up I just won't waste my time doing it. Perhaps I'm weird like that, I just offering up another point of view. And like I said I don't have any other ideas on how to assure them there's value and as such get them to sign-up, come back, and contribute.

I spent quite a bit of time the other night tying some of these knots (learning them). Question: Why does everyone use the Clinch knot instead of the Rapala Knot or the Trilene Knot? These seem like better knots.
