Might be the ease of the clinch knot. I like the complecated knots, ie; blood knot,Rapala knot (loop knot). There is a time a place for all knots, knowing when to use one or another is the trick.

I use the Trilene knot for everything but larger hooks. It is easy and very effective. I wrap around six times instead of the four it shows on the index. I have learned the hardway that the knot is only as good as the shape of the line it is on. Be sure to retie after larger fish or if you are lighting them up I retie every five fish or so.

Default Habit

I tie a clinch knot in most situations because it was what my dad taught me and I never thought of using others until recently when I saw that same website.

Thank you for thinking on how to improve our forum. I like the idea of "sticky post". Except I think it would be more useful if such posts will contain useful info, not just links to useful info. At some point I started to create sub forums for popular water bodies (Fishing in Willamette Zone - Oregon Fishing Forum). Few days ago I started a sticky tread Junction City Pond - General Information (of course I had to start from Junction city pond ). I think you are right and it will be very useful for people. (A year ago I spent hours and hours trying to find such info ).

Of course it's a lot of work to collect and post info on all water bodies, but if each of us will take one place and make a post about it - then it doesn't look like such a big deal.

Limit the access to the thread to members only. Just an idea.
Frankly I don't like this one. No offense. I know that you brought this idea trying to help the forum to grow. And thank you for that.

The sun shines for everyone, not for members only Let's follow the sun. If we make "members only" (which is not such a bad thing) we open the door for something really ugly, and you will not even notice as it will turn into something like "white only" or whatever "only".

Let's better give everything to everyone.

Sounds good. Like you said I just want to get more people active on the site. I like the group project as well. I can give some info on the north valley water bodies. Thanks for the consideration Anitoly.

I do not like the idea of limiting access to members only. We are here because we don't mind sharing our knowledge with others. Anyways, people will just sign up with fake info just to see what we have and never post anything, which only dilutes our membership. We'll just be like other sites who boasts how many members they have, but in reality the active members list is a minute percentage.

I don't know if this is already here and I just haven't seen it (I see the Oregon Fishing Links, but it's not quite what I was looking for), so how about a "popular links" thread or tab? You know, a place that contains links to the current regulations, the stocking schedule (the odfw site and the one Obsessed showed us), and the knot tying site. Basically the general info that we keep seeing pop up in all of the different threads. Just my two cents, what do you all think?

I too have learned the lesson of retying after five fish or so, seems like the fish know how to untie the knot after that many catches I also put an edge on my hook after that many fish...just ask Bentrod It is also a good idea to inspect your leader after each fish as the line does become chafed and sometimes frayed.

Default knots

after 25yrs. of catching big fish , it is a mistery to me why anglers use the knots you mentioned - I only use 2 - the egg loop , to keep your bait on , that one takes some practice , and the " over hand polamer " which is simple , fast , and tests out at 100% break point . I could teach you that knot in about 10sec.

I think it's a good idea. I think the best place for it is in "Other stuff (related to fishing)" under "Fishing in General. Start a thread there (I would call it "Useful Fishing Links"), and everyone will contribute in this topic (I hope ). I'll make it a "sticky topic" so it will be always the first in the list.
