Question Probably a stupid question but.....

Well, I have a real boat now. I'm sooo excited, it's a three seater Old Town Canoe! I just love canoes, grew up paddling with my dad, so good memories......oh, my question, do you have to register a canoe? I tried to find out but it seems like a no according to the Oregon site I found.

Also, where is a good place to paddle/fish? This spring/summer I'm going to be doing my best to find places. I can't wait! Any tips greatly appreciated.

Try Silverton Reservoir for calm waters and great views.

There is no such thing as a stupid question, espescially here.

I agree with Silverton Reservoir. It's large and placid. I've been there a few times and the water was always flat and very few people (mostly on the bank). Later on in late spring and early summer, Ollalie Lake (Mt. National Forest slightly NE of Detroit) is awesome too. Great fishing, but it's a drive, so it's a place to go and camp for a few days. Harriet is a nice place (and it gets stocked), but it may be a little small for a 3 person canoe.

Thumbs up Hosmer Lake

I agree with EJ, no such thing as a stupid question. As far as having to register a canoe check with the Oregon Marine BoardState of Oregon: Oregon State Marine Board
Tight lines to you and go out and make some memories.... There is a lake in Central Oregon on the Cascades Lakes Hwy. called Hosmer Lake, perfect for a canoe, they have Brook Trout and Atlantic Salmon in abundance.

Default canoe

I agree , ask and you shall learn ( I sound like a preacher ) - I believe that non-motorized craft do not have to be regersted - but you should insure it .

A trip down the Tualitan River can be quite enjoyable. There is a great place to put in at in Tualitan. I will find out the location as I have only been there once. I also take my inflatable Canoe on the Willamette, but it is real stable. There are some big wakes thrown by the OMSI jet boats and wake board boats that could easily roll an inexperienced paddler. Trojan ponds out past St Helens is a fun little trip and they stock it with trout. Harriet lake is also a good venue as there is a low speed limit for boats and it is stocked a couple times. Estacada lake is real pretty as well. Good luck and be safe.Remember that you must have vests for all people in the boat, a whistle that works when wet, and a bailer.

Default Thanks again all...

Wow, so much info! Thanks as always. I just love OFF.

I will definately be on the Tualatin, (Cook park is five minutes from me) and we love to camp so I'm sure the lakes mentioned will get a look! I can't wait! I just need one more paddle, a bailer, and a whistle!

Isn't there also a horsepower rating you have to exceed as well? I thought it was like 10HP but seeing as I don't have a boat, motorized or not, I've never paid close attention to the rules.
