Question Jigging

I started jigging around the stumps as the lake is filling up and wondered what you Bass guys would recommend, I have been using what ever is on the rod.. most likely a Trout lure. I would like to keep one rod strictly for Bass, and start targeting them as the water warms up. An all around stand by lure/jig would be best for me as a rookie Bass angler, just something for those moments when they arise. Thanks for any help.

i would have a baby brush hog or a shaky head ready at all times for the bass. it's easy and works from summer-winter.

Default baits

Just make up a small little box to keep a few select bass baits in. Like some spinners and soft plastics. make sure to have some Rubber worms! they are the number one bass bait!

It's hard to keep just one rod for bass, but if you do: I would rig it with a white single blade spinnerbait with a plastic worm or craw trailer. That would allow you the versatility to use it as a quick searching lure and also allow you to pinpoint bass-looking spots slower and more methodical as you allow it to helicopter down into the roots of the stumps or slow roll it along the bottom between stumps. You can even use it like a regular old jig.

I posted this picture in another thread but here is my little creation. I had a brown roostertail with a brown worm on fishing a lake on the coast and caught a really nice trout and some largemouth on it. Today it was killing the smallies but I need to shorten it up a bit because they cant really get a good bite being that it's so long. This summer I plan to use this idea as my go-to bass lure and experiment with all the different variations. Just cut the hook off your spinner and replace it with the clasp of a swivel, and you can put on any plastic/hook you like. Up top, I cut the head off the bait and used the hook to make a hole through it and then slide it up onto the swivel before I clipped the spinner on. Then slid it down so that it covers the clasp and the bottom half of the barrel swivel. Makes a nice little head.
The way it moves in the water is great. The head bobs around, the blade spinning makes it all look like one piece and since the whole thing spins the tail flickers around like crazy. I am really exited for the summer bite. Anyhow, just wanted to share my idea with the club here.

hehe It came about through attrition I guess you could say. I first started cutting the hooks off and clasping on flies that I had tied in an attempt to fool the trout away from the normal spinners that they saw.. In a way inspired by the roostertails I used to see that had flies replacing the normal feathered treble hook. Then one day on the coast when I wasn't able to catch a thing, I realized I could put two things together and replaced the fly with a snagless worm. Caught a nice trout and some largemouth after trying everything else with no result. From there I started to experiment with it.

Thumbs up Thanks a million bites...

Really thanks fellow anglers, this is why this site is so cool...free exchange of ideas and a lot of help for the beginner, I have my rod (7 foot flipping stick, Ambas. left hand retrieve for a reel and some heavy duty braided line all set up) all of which are virgins. I will name my first Bass this year after you .....I will be trying them out over the weekend, I will post which ever way it goes... Thanks again for all th input, it all helps.

Chuck

Default Great Lure

I must say, I have never thought to clip the treble off of a Blue Fox. I tried to put a soft plastic on a spinner but they never had the right action with the Treble. NOW I have the solution. And the Head at the top. Great idea. I will be trying my own version soon.

Chuck dont forget about the 3" senko for sm and the 5" for Lrg. Drop shot or split shot or with no lead at all when it warms up.

thanks for the photo
