Default Discarding soft plastics in the water

Before you throw your torn up soft plastics in the lake, look at this report

That's mind blowing. You would think it would be common sense to not toss junk into the water as plastic is not biodegradable to begin with. As Chuck mentioned in another thread, indigestible yellow corn can block up a fish and kill it, so these plastics are even worse. This is just another reminder for people to respect nature's playground, or else she'll take it away.

There is just too much wrong with that......Geoff, you are wise beyond your years; nice to know the stewardship of our resource is in your hands.

Default Fishing line too...

Don't leave any fishing line behind either! It can be deadly for all sorts of critters. Pick up any that others may have left behind. Most good fishing products outlets have a recycling box for the stuff.

I like the fact that ODFW has even started to put out recycling/collection receptacles for old fishing gear. Whenever I go out to the river, I usually find tons of old line on the bank (and even snag a bunch). I pick up as much as I can, so maybe these receptacles will make it easier for people. Then again, there are usually trash cans and people still seem to try their hardest to avoid using them.

I constantly come home with some guy's fishing line in my pocket. I can't stand seeing coils along the shoreline.

I sure will be more carefull what I do with my used plastics. I must admit that I have tossed a few in thinking they were biodegradable. I asumed it would take only a few days to breakdown, but now that I think about it they are pretty tough. Are there any enviorment friendly brands out there? I use crawlers most of the time anyway, are they bad for the rivers eco system?
I always pick up old line and any trash I see. I consider it my contribution to making fisherman look better to the non-fisherman who complain about litter from fisherman.

I believe I've seen it advertised that the Berkley Gulp is supposed to be 100% natural and biodegradable. Which is the only brand that I'm familiar with that makes such claims.

So True! A few years ago I was fishing at Hagg Lake and ended up untying a crow from some fisherman's line that was wrapped around a bush. Some people are just so irresponsible
