The only crappie I have ever caught was using what I call the "poor man's fly fishing"....I use my normal spin casting trout rod/reel and run my line through a water bobber (one of the clear ones you can fill with water), and about 4 to 5 feet of line, and then a dry fly. I pop it along the top of the water, and almost ALWAYS get a fish. Might sound stupid, but hey, I don't know how to flyfish!

Nothin poor about a bobber and fly. Just a lot cheaper I have just started to use it for trout and Bass.
