Well I am a huge topwater fan wether it be buzbaits, poppers anything you can use on the surface to watch them big old Smallies or Largies unleash there fury on them.
Many questions arise when throwing topwater when do I start, what color to use and the list goes on and on. Everyone i talk to say's it's to cold to start throwing them now I use sstart throwing them now and continue all the through the summer I don't usually get to many hook ups this early but I would rather be the one saying the topwater bite is on rather than hearing about it. Good luck and I would love to hear all of your opinions on this subject. Still looking for people to float tube on the South Umpqua as well. |

The answer to your prayers- Yellow Magic poppers (pictured below) in Alewife. You can throw them all year long and they will catch fish (in Texas at least). If the lake is choppy throw a buzzbait. If it is smooth throw a popper or a frog. I determine what color by the contrast of the lake. If it is muddy chartruese or black, clear-White, murky- firetiger or chartruse, stained- all the above but mainly white shad or chartruse. Always, always have a Dean Rojas Spro Bronzeye frog tied on (bottom pic).

I fish top water all the time! but i still have never caught a fish top water....
Unless you call a fish exploding on a worm when it hits the water. then no fish.

It's still early for a topwater bite. Wait until the water temp is atleast 62 and some of the bass have begun to spawn. It's coming soon.
Check out some of the other threads about good topwater baits. |

Get a couple Trophy ScumFrogs from BassProShops. No one carries them around here and they are better than the more expensive SPRO frogs.
