Default Lures?

I have been reading some about the lures you all use, and I have a few questions on where to go shopping (buying).

Where are the best places to buy lures?

Best Selection?

Best Pricing?

Best Quality?

Most knowlegdable Sales staff?

Are there any reputable online merchants for discount lures?

I have found that different lures are cheapest at different stores. But Bimart Wal mart and Fred meyers have pretty good prices on the popular models.

Default rapala

I have heard of "broke-backed rapalas" being good for bass fishing. Is that the same as a "jointed" rapala? and are they any good?

Default probably the jointed

I have not used them myself, but have heard that the jointed rapalas are really good. I have used both floating and diving rapalas with great success. As for broke-back, probably the jointed ones.

Best local advice would come from Fisherman's Marine or Sportsman's Warehouse. Since there are so many ways to catch a bass, it won't be long before you'll need a roll-around tool, I mean, tackle box.

Learn what lures you will need by reading any book you can find on bass fishing, BassMaster magazine, BASSIN' magazine, and FLW Outdoors. The other markets are too broad to be of much help. Look for articles on line like in Westernbass.com or bassdozer.com.

Northwest bass like a smaller and slower presentation with more natural colors than other parts of the country. You are imitating: 1) crawdads, 2) perch, and 3) trout. In that order so choose lure colors based on that.

You asked about the brokeback Rapala... It's a good summer lure, but I prefer the jointed Rebel minnow because it is less bouyant and therefor rises more slowly when paused. I think it looks more natural that way.

BTW. Most of my shopping is from BassProShops. The rest is the local sporting goods clearance racks.

I've found it doesn't get much better than Pure Fishing's discount store...

Default Best Crankbaits Under $5

The Feb issue of Bass Master had this article. Great advice.

Shallow and Mid-Depth (2 to 8 Feet)

Bandit 100 Series - runs about 5 feet
Bandit 200 Series - maxes out around 8 feet
Bomber 6A - dives to 8 feet
Bomber 7A - goes a bit deeper
Strike King's Pro-Model Series 3
Norman Baby N and Deep Baby N
Luhr Jensen Speed Trap
Bomber 5A
Cotton Cordell Big O

Deep Runners (9 feet and Deeper)

Norman Deep Little N - 9 to 12 feet
Rebel Deep Wee "R"
Norman DD22 - up to 18 feet
Strike King's Pro-Model Series 5 - 13 feet
Strike King's Pro-Model Series 6 - 15 feet
Bomber Fat Free Shad size 6 - 8 to 14 feet
Bomber Fat Free Shad size 7 - 14 to 18 feet
Bass Pro Shop XPS Nitro Deep - 15 feet

Lipless

Rat-L-Traps
Berkley Frenzy Rattl'r
Cotton Cordell Super Spot
Strike King Red Eye Shad

All of these baits should be under $5. Look for craw, fire tiger, splatterback, rootbeer?, and shad colors. I've picked up a few and can't wait to try them out!
Hope they get a few fish on!
