Default Eugene Area Bass

My brother is living in Eugene and he and I would like to plan some Catch-and-Release bass trips near Eugene. He is very close to Fern Ridge, but I have not heard many good things about the lake.

Where are some good bass lakes near Eugene? I have a 14' Jon w/outboard and MinnKota so I can use a regular or primitive launching area. Any suggestions?

I only know of Fern Ridge, and have actually had a fantastic time fishing it. Last fall (didn't make it there this fall) I had several days where my arm got tired from catching 1 and 2lbers just one after another all day long. Even had more than a few short strikes from larger fish, but they were reluctant to commit.

Then given you have a boat, I have heard good reports about fishing timber on the eastern side of the lake. While all my fish were caught from the shore in either the Perkin's Peninsula Park on the southern shore, or Orchard Park on the north eastern shore.

And of course if you're feeling adventurous you could always hit up the Smith and Umpqua for stripers. I've been told that they return to the rivers to weather the fall/winter.

The Umpqua is also supposed to be a fantastic smallmouth river as well.

Dorena reservoir just south of Eugene has a great bass population. There are tournaments ther in the summer months. However there is a limit to how many one should eat due to naturally occuring murcury.

Thumbs up Small Mouth fishing

There is a nice population of Smallies in Dexter Res., and Large Mouth in Lookout Point. Both have all year long boat ramps, although Lookout is rather a large lake for just an electric motor.
