I know it is not in Portland, but B.C. Angling Post is my new favorite. Bill, the owner and his store help, Alan, and I forget the other guy who worked there, but anyhoo they are the most knowledgeble fishermen I have had a chance to encounter. Truly unfair when they are fishing next to you good at it! If you can make it down 205 to Gladstone, Latus Motors exit, it is worth it. I know you posted this in the bass fishin section, and they really specialize in your salmon/steelhead needs. Their bait is absolutely 100 times better than comm. stuff you get at chains. I catch more fish because of their coon shrimp. I bought a tried and true trout killer spinner from them(it is a trout lure, trust me, it kill 'em), and nailed 6 SM on the Molalla between Canby, and the Willy yesterday afternoon. If you are looking for a wide general selection, to fish for anything, go to Sportmans WH or Fishermans Marine Supply. Lots o stock, and good selection. I have been getting plastics at Fishermans in O.C. Pretty happy with 'em. But if you do any fishin onther than warmwater, check out B.C. Good guys with great info! Oh yeah, Ollie Damons is sweet if you need reels or rods repaired, they are right Downtown. And they are pretty reasonable too. I would like to hear of other cool tackle/bait shops around. Always neat to check 'em out!
