Yeah, I asked the guys a fishermans for a decent buzz style lure, and this particular gentleman who obviously was a basser, a good one at that he had pics. He told me about these and how he loves it for Largies, but assumed it would work the same fo Smallies too. I just went with it and never looked back and have probably caught 10 or 12 in the 6 weeks or so that I've owned it. I like it alot. Definately going to upsize and go after some Large Mouths later this summer. Yes, they are effective for beginners, as I am so green to bass it isn't funny. And I have regularly caught fish.

Thanks for all of the other replies and pics. This thread is getting interesting!

what was the temp today??? that will answer your questoin lol

not but for real, all the warmwater tactics will work here, they just work later in the year as the water temps will not reach that high untill later. but a fish will be very similar with the same temperature in lots of various places, just will take longer for lakes and rivers to get as high as california ones. so go ahead and use those techniques

there is your answer

i think they work better for largies. you might google "buzzbait trailer hook" as you get lots of short strikes with largies. Meaning they will kind of slap at the bait, or bite the skirt but not the hook. this allows for a greater hook up ratio and is easy to do.

congrats on the fish!

FLIPPIN - I was beginning to wonder a little about that. I have gone after some LM on the Tualatin and I have only landed 1 of the 8 or so that I know have hit it. I just assumed I set the hook too hard. Really killer information to know. Thanks so much! This is definiately the place to be. I'm learnin so much!

I too was on the main this weekend I think the reason the bite was so slow is because alot of the bass are still on their beds I saw alot of beding fish i did do ok catching alot of fish but i really had to work at it. Lots of reaction bites to jigs burning them over beds.

Default Lipless Crank

Just wanting to get the Oregon terminology down as my use of the term "lipless crank" caused flippinbaits to start flippinout

See the photo below. In my former neck of the woods we called this a lipless crank. It is definitely a topwater lure that is designed to be walked across the surface. It is definitely not a wakebait, and it is not what I'd call a swimbait, buzzbait or jerkbait.

What is this called around here?

If I could get that answer sarcasm free, I'd consider that a bonus

LOL- I'm guessing you are supplying all of the specific names and I'm using the general term. I'm in the 40 plus crowd. Most of the guys I fished with were friends I grew up with and thier parents. I think they are just adding new variations to everything to the point where we need more descriptions...

I guess if you wanted a name for the class of lures zara spooks fall into it would be walk-the-dog lures but that's too much of a mouth full, there must be a shorter name.

they are known as twitchin lures. Most people call them spooks. Cuz the two most popular ones are heddon spook and zara spook. Kind of like everybody calls them senkos but there really stick baits. People just call them senkos cuz gary yamamoto made the most famous ones. Here is a pic of a lipless crankbait fished underwater anywhere up to 20ft ( brans like yo zuri drum, berkley frenzy, rat l trap, rattlin rapala).....The second picture is a Heddon Spook, or twitch bait. Fished on top of the water. this is where you walk the dog on the top of the water. It is a topwater lure, where the lipless cranbait is fished underwater.
