I really don't like messing with bass when they are spawning but I couldn't help myself. I'm sure it was 9 pounds, probably more I know of a guy that has a 9 pound bass on his wall and I followed this one around for 15 minutes and at times was 2 feet away from it. I was a huge fish. That's why I felt so bad . Never again...

fishing is just one big long learning process, lessons are learned everyday. I learned not to forget my anchor when fishing the rivers out of my pontoon the other day lol

If it truly was a "9lb bass" then it genes are critical to the fishery.
Not trying to be difficult here - but if you really want to preserve big fish to pass on their genes shouldn't you leave them alone entirely? Any time you catch a fish even with a barbless hook and immediately release it you are stressing it, and with a barbed trebble hook like many lures have you're putting it in even more danger.
It's all about acceptable risk to the fish - and we all have a level at which we decide where that is (or the regulations decide for us ).

Yeah thats a very nice lake. I seen some huge trout get pulled out of there. Ive fished from the bank never done any trolling there and that seemed like the best way for those big trout.

yea, many people do not practice bed fishing, and some lakes outlaw it outright. that's why if people chose to bed fish they should be extra cautious. sorry to jack the thread...if you have questions just pm me.

I believe that bed fishing should be banned! Bass are most vulnerable while protecting a nest and I would never toss a lure on the nest because regardless of its size, it would never be a real Trophy.

Just my 2 cents.

I have considered that since I posted and I would have to agree. At all other times of the year bass are simply in the feed/rest cycle. Spawn comes around and a reflex comes into that puts the odds too far in favor of the angler.

Consider that the vast majority of the largest fish ever caught were supposedly caught in the spring, in water "less that 6 feet deep". Well a lot were probably spawning fish.

Did you actually trigger the fish to bite or did you just throw something at it to force it to protect it's nest? Is it a trophy or an exploitation?
