I've caught many large trout at Dorena.
catching big bass is not something that comes easy. sure, people will go to a lake and sometimes catch a large fish, but every body of water has it's key areas where big fish will hang out, at least once in awhile. it takes time on the water to discover these places on each lake. i could tell you where some areas are at various lakes but i think it would take some of the fun out of it for you. it feels much better to figure out something for yourself and learn what the fish are doing and how to catch them. key places generally consist of shallow water with quick access to deeper water. deeper water is a relative term depending on time of year, water temps, and the cycle the fish are in (ie., pre-spawn, spawn. post-spawn, summer, etc.).

good luck

ps. a good post spawn pattern at dorena should turn on very soon.

Thanks for the encouragement I plan on catching a big one this year at Dorena for sure.

I will be fishing from my Kayak in the Harms park area as well as the grasslands near the top of the lake.
I like to fish in the coves just below or downstream of Harms park, (towards the dam,) nice big trout and rumor of big bass too.

Although I've done a bit of night SCUBA diving and have seen bass hanging out under stumps at Baker Bay I still like the easy access of Harms park for kayak users.

This is the fullest I've seen Dorena get for some time now.

Way cool for all boaters, swimmers and us who love to fish.

I love the idea of freshwater diving, I've always wanted to know what on earth the fish were doing down there. When I got open water certified many years ago we did our first couple of dives in freshwater and it was and still is amazing the size of the trout that came in to check us out.

They are so very curious aren't they.

I want to do a night dive in the triangle at Winchester bay sometime.

That could be a fun dive and very safe because of the low currents.

There are rumors of sea bass holding out in there.

I've only fished near the dam one time.
The fish laughed at me.

I'll go back and try again soon.
That's another easy access for a kayak because of the nearby parking lot and trail to the water.

I think in the past there was actually a boat ramp there.
