Question Baitcasting reels...

I have decided to target Large Mouth Bass this year using actual Bass gear. I have a pretty good rod but the only reel I have is an old Salmon reel, an Ambassador 6501 (Left hand retrieve), works well for plunking for Salmon but not so hot for as many cast a Bass angler will do on any given day . Any suggestions for a medium priced level wind. Or suggestions on a certain brand.

Abu Garcia Revo's are my #1 suggestion. They are awesome.

Quantum makes some decent reels for pretty cheap.

go to your tackle shop and make sure you try the reels out in person instead of (or atleast before) ordering one online so that you can make sure it's how you want a reel to function. I've made that mistake before.

Chuck, I like the Shimano Citica. I bought one last season and used the dickens out of it. I liked it so much that I bought another one this year and will probably three-peat.

It is a smooth casting, easily palmed reel that forgives alot of mistakes. I taught my wife's cousin how to fish one. In less than half an hour, he was bassin' like a pro.

Citicas cost $119.95 everywhere and do not go on sale because of retailer minimum pricing contracts.

Chuck, I would even go with cabella's since you buy from them anyway. All my baitcasters are from there, I've had no issues.

the cabelas prodigy is a nice reel. I have 2 of them. I also would suggest the Daiwa MegaForce. Works and casts well with a great retriveal ratio. Not the best drag at 8.8 lbs but a great reel. If you are looking to flip in heavy cover a lot go with the revo series! If you want a all around good real go with the shimano curado, or citica. And you can beat the price of the MegaForce 55$. and can be got on sale too!!!

all i use is the shimano curado have 2 now and will be going for a third soon. love the reel but hate the braking system. its a pain to get dialed in but as soon as you do they are great.and since i have a bussiness license for fishing stuff i pay $175 for them instead of the reg. $199.99 not a big savings but it adds up.never used a revo but thought about trying out on off the twitchin bar reels

Post How about this..q

Any comments on this reel....just asking, your not going to hurt my feelings. Frankly I am tired of buying reels and rods that just sit in the corner because the really weren't suited for my purpose. Let me know what you would buy for your self. Thanks This one is even on sale..

I have last years model of that. It is "ok" its worth about 70$. Honestly, the next reel up in the Cabelas system is the prodigy. I have 2 of them and 1 tournament zx. The prodigy's feel about 50$ better. They are made and designed by daiwa. Excellent reels. The tournament zx is my spinnerbait rod. It as a fast retrieval and casts ok. But the drag is not meant for big baits or big fish in thick cover. Biggest fish i have landed on it is just over 4. Honestly, i dont know how well the drag would hold up with a fish 6-10lbs.

Again, as your first baitcaster, it might not be bad to practice with. It is a good cranking and spinnerbait rod, maybe a senko, but i dont like throwing anything texas rigged with it. I love the prodigy!! and if i was gonna pay 75$ after shippin i think i would just go to bi mart and buy two diawa megaforce's

just my two cents.

but be warned i have last years model, maybe it is vastly improved!!
