I have a couple of questions about the rod and line. I will be using braided line (Fireline) and was wondering if a med action 7 foot Spinning rod would be a good general carry in the boat all purpose rod ? I was considering 12-14 lb test line, 14 lb main line and a 12 lb leader (24 in. Flor/mono) for just a hit of stretch. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated ...

Chuck- Fish with what makes you happy. I've caught my share of Bass since turning in my Zebco for that first spinning reel back in the 1970's.

I do have to admit that I've been hearing the siren call of a high end Shimano baitcaster. It's those damn Bass Pro TV shows

What rods are all of you bassing with baitcaster fans using with your reels? I'd imagine that after dropping a buck fifty plus on a reel that you want to put just as much thought into the rod...

Some one told me that the difference between a fishing pole and a fishing rod is ....a hundred bucks.
I have a Shimano Stradic 2500 for the reel and just started looking for a rod to hang it on...My problem is I only have room for one extra rod in my boat so this unit has to cover a a broad spectrum of Bass applications. Flippin, poppers, plugs and swim baits along with the occasional spinner bait. I am sure I have a long haul before I find one like that...

Chuck
im sorry chuck but you will not find a rod to do all of that. thats like asking your putter to tee off on the long par 5. or asking your pellet gun to take a mallard out of the sky

you can never have too many rods in the boat.

a good all-around rod would be a 7' med/med hvy action rod with line weights from 12-20lbs. test, maybe 1/4-1oz. weights. if you could find one with a fast taper tip it would be more forgiving for throwing lighter topwaters. it would still suffer for heavy flipping though. i pitch with 20 lbs. line but throwing poppers on 20 willl kill the action

how about two new rods?
