I saw the pond from the Hwy 34 overpass in Tangent and found my way to it through an industrial park. As I was getting my pole and tackle bag from the van, a Barney Fife Rent-a-Cop hurried over and said the pond was off limits and on private property. So I left wondering if he had a bullet in his shirt pocket.

That really stinks.

My uncle was taking me to a pond that was owned by a farmer once that was supposed to be the best bass fishing ill ever do....

and we pulled up and asked the farmer and he wouldn't let us on account of some one he let back there caused massive damage to his tracker, and it ended up costing him a fourtune.....

I guess that my point is that some of the ponds that you can't fish are the best ponds that you would ever fish.

.....some people suck....

Hate to say it.

No one but my family and friends can use my pond. I used to allow people to fish it, but never again.

BECAUSE:
You're not supposed to have to pick up litter, tag ends of line, wrappers, beer cans ect - on your own property after someone with an obvious lack of care about the environment (even if it's just caring about visual appeal) is done harrassing your fish.
How did I benefit? I lost fish, had to deal with garbage, and obnoxious folks..

After all, people are essentially USING a resourse for their benefit (personal gain), without contributing anything except negative attributes.
How long would you allow someone to do that on your property?

I've watched as people decide whether or not they should break a POSTED RULE about harvest.
"this one is so big"
"It's only one fish"
I'd walk up and politely ask what they were doing ignoring posted rules - 8 out of 10 would swear at me on my own property.
Guess greed gets to alot of folks. It was too hard for them to just release 18-22" trout.

I had someone tell me to "go the F away, it's none of your business, I can kill any fish I want to"

It was enough I was letting strangers Abuse my resourse. I shouldnt have to babysit, And cleam up after them too.

ethics, morals, whatever you want to call it - Something is Missing from the majority of society.

I know your rule conscious Chuck - you would be allowed to fish anytime.

Alot of my neighbors have nicer lakes/ponds than I do, and funny enough all of them have similar rule systems set up for theirs as I do. Imagine that.

If I had a pond and someone wanted to use it I would say sure, but only so long as I can have your phone number and the name on your drivers license. Then if they leave trash call the cops and cite them for littering or whatever else. If you know you live in a world where general morality is on the decline it makes sense to take measures to protect yourself.

My pond stays nice and clean now that no strangers use it.

I agree, it does sound like a decent system you thought of. however, I'd have to be home all the time to get everyone's info. Now that there's no public access, there are no worries.

More and more gates go up every year. It sucks, but there isn't a large enough percentage of the "sportsmen" that remember the saying - leave a place nicer than you found it.
