Default Just for kids?

I know that when they stock the canal fishing can be really easy and great for kids. I went late last summer and didn't have any luck. Seems like it would be good bass water, but I have no idea if there are any in there. Anyone know? Being so close to home, it seems like a good close spot to for a quick couple hours fishing. Thanks for any help.

Default Alton Baker trout

I'm not for sure if it would be good bass water, maybe, alittle warmer water back in that canal. I was over there yesterday and there was talk that they stocked 2500 trout. I saw several people with large stringers of fish, just about everyone was catching.

I've had my best luck there on the Autzen side just below the the canoe chutes. I've found the trout lay on the opposite side of the canal. There is alot of cover from trees and other rocks. Just be careful theres quite a few "lure eaters" in that area and I've lost a small fortune there.

No, i don't think that there are any bass in there, if there are they're probablynot in the canal, maybe over towards autzen and the BMX track, that area with the stopped water and coves. but i've never heard of bass in there.

Default the canal-ALTON-BAKER PARK EUGENE

The Alton-Baker Canal runs through the park of the same name, next to Autzem Stadium in Eugene. Look at Google Earth for close-ups or Virtual Earth. If you need a good map, check out the USGS website called the National Map Viewer at:

National Map Viewer

There's a cool little lake there too. The canal is filled with water diverted from the Willamette river, and the intake is just upstream(east) on the North side under the I-5 bridge. The lake is just on the other side(west) of I-5. My guess is the ODFW tanker dumped those 600 one pounders two weeks ago at that lake, since it would be colder water than down the canal in the lower pond areas.
